Course Description

The aim of the course is to provide learners with an introduction to health and safety in the workplace to promote a positive approach to health and safety in the workplace.

Session 1- Introduction to Health and Safety in the Workplace
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
 State the benefits of good health and safety in the workplace
 List the consequences of poor health and safety in the workplace
 State the legislation that enforces health and safety in the UK
 List the responsibilities of employers managing health, safety and welfare of employees
 List the duties of employees in relation to health and safety in the workplace
 Identify the penalties for breaching health and safety legislation
 State the importance of preventing accidents

Session 2- Introduction to workplace hazards and risks
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
 Define what is a “hazard” and a “risk”
 State the different types of hazards and risks associated with various common work related accidents

Session 3- Introduction to Workplace welfare
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
 State the benefits of good housekeeping in the workplace
 List the key welfare features required in the workplace as determined by legislation
 Identify the different types of safety signs used in the workplace

Session 4- Introduction to workplace safety procedures
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
 State your responsibilities in reporting workplace accidents and incidents
 List the first aid requirements in the workplace
 List the different types of workplace personal protective equipment.
