Sarah Keenan. Lead Trainer
In 2004 I started working in Children’s services, supporting children and young people living in a long term residential children’s home. Known as Looked After Children, all had significant learning disabilities, some had physical disabilities and some with PMLD (Profound and Multiple learning disabilities). All presented behaviours that Challenge us. In addition they had diagnosis of ADHD, Autism, Epilepsy, Mental Health issues and psychological disorders such as Schizophrenia. My most senior position held was senior project worker
Closure of the unit due to local authority cut backs, led to a transfer to a short break respite unit for children and young people in 2008. This facility provided care to those with both complex learning & physical disabilities, but also those with significant physical care needs such as PEG and Naso – Gastric Feeds, barriers in verbal communication, angelman syndrome, global development delay, complex behavioural needs and mental health issues.
In 2010 I worked within a self advocacy movement, working with people with a range of disabilities to speak up for their rights and have an equal voice in society. A chance request to do some training, which I loved, forged the path to be a Health and Social Care trainer and I have never looked back!
For 8 years I worked for companies in the private, voluntary and charitable sectors and in March 2017, following voluntary redundancy, I decided to go it alone, hence Sarah Keenan Training was born
In my free time I am a trustee of The Cancer Support Centre, a volunteer receptionist at St Giles Hospice & a Group Chair of an Executive Committee for a local Scout Group
